International Day: workshop "Didactics and Pedagogy"

International Day: workshop Didactics and Pedagogy.

During the international week at UCSyd, we had to attend different workshops. On wednesday (International Day) I intended the workshop on didactics and pedagogy. We were an international group of teachers and future teachers, and we discussed together the possible place of internationalization and intercultural behaviors in our classes. Mainly, we discussed about what was similar in our own different cultures, and what was different. Then, we discussed about what a teacher should do when facing a pupil from another cultural background.
After quite a time discussing in small groups, my group and I agreed on three main points:

1/ We have to be interested in the person, we have to want to meet him/her and to want to know more about him/her.

2/ We have to be aware of our cultural differences. And to have that awareness, we need the interest first.

3/ We need to have a dialog with the person. Only by speaking with him/her, and listening to him/her will we be able to live together with our differences.

Other groups found other three main points. And that is certainly the richness of this workshop: we are different and we have different ideas... And none is better than another, the mix of them all makes the whole richer.
